SR Judo Club took 31 players to the first competitive event in over 18 months. Around 100 competitors from all over the county competed in the event in Leicester, returning with 10 bronze, 14 silver and 8 gold medals.
In the Primary category (under 10) ,Darcey Chamberlain, Xanthie Thorpe, Jenson Crutchley, Adam Mawdsley, Theo Painter and Riley Russell all battled their way to take gold medal in their respective weight groups. Harrison Woods, Teddy Lindsey, Stanley Wright, Max Newton, Elsie Freakley, Autumn Mcilwraith and Phoebe Waterfield took second place in their categories bringing home silver medals. Phoebe Napier, Joseph Duro, Harry Waterfield, George Wright, Ricco Crowie-McGrath and Elsie Lindsey all returned with a bronze.
In the Juniors (10-16 years), Lyla Painter and Poppy Murphy fought their way to the gold medals. Eliza Seditas, Fabian Crowie-McGrath, Noah Chamberlain, Alfie Freakley, Sophie Napier and Ruby Gimson took home silvers. Almirah Edwards, Daniel Mawdsley, Dylan Townsend came away with bronze medals. Also, fighting in his first senior event, Callum Grant came away with a silver medal.
SR’s club coach, Lea Barkby commented on the competition: 'It was great to return to competition after a long time away from the sport. Many of the players we took were competing for the first time away from the club and showed some great potential.’
